Chateau d'Yquem Sauternes 1995
|Region||France, Bordeaux, Sauternes|
Clear, brilliant golden-yellow colour. The bouquet of this wine, bottled just over a year ago, is still largely closed-in. However, there are hints of honey, raisins, and jam due to the 1995 vintage's superb concentration. The bouquet also reveals subtle aromas reminiscent of quince, fig, and hazelnut, which afford a glimpse of this complex wine's tremendous potential. 1995 Château d'Yquem equally shows a great deal of character on the palate. It starts out round and full-bodied, quickly going on to show considerable strength. The richness is balanced by good, but not excessive, acidity. Orange and mandarin flavours fill the mouth, and the aftertaste is impressively long. This vintage will easily survive the first century of the new millennium, and will no doubt provide us with increasing pleasure in future decades.
